Interview with Killcode with the Msc Rock Diva.
Hi Tom. Thanks for taking the time to talk to me about your band KILLCODE. That's a pretty different name. How did you guys come up with it?
I came across the term online, thought it was cool and ran it by Chas, who started this band with me. He loved it and it stuck.
How long has the band been together and who are the members?
We started at the end of 2008
Pat Harrington- Guitar
Chas- Guitar
Erric Bonesmith- Bass
Rob Noxious-Drums
Tom Morrissey-Vocals
I'd like to talk to you about your self released cd "Taking It All". You guys self produced and self funded this project?
I think you mean "KILLCODE", which is the title of our current full length release. "Taking it All" was the 6 song ep we released prior to this one. All three of our releases including our new full length were self funded and Stacy O'Dell produced it.
Where did you guys find the inspiration to write the songs on this release?
Life's ups, downs and everything in between. We draw on personal experiences for some songs while others are pure fun and fictional.
"Hands Up" is like a party anthem. Very catchy track. Can you tell me more about it?
Thanks and I guess mission accomplished! :) It basically was written as a song that we could do live and get the crowd going and interacting with us. We recorded the gang vocals on that song with all our friends at Stacy's studio. We had a party, set up a mic in the corner and everyone sang or screamed along to a playback of the song. So you are hearing an actual party! You can also hear some of that at the top of "Still Here", the first track on the cd.
My favorite track is "Wrong Side". Love it, Was it from personal experience?
Thanks again ! Yes, and no. The song/chorus was an idea that Chas had for years that drew on a personal experience he had a long time ago. He gave me the music and the chorus lyrics and I wrote the verse lyrics around what i thought he may have been feeling at the time.
You did a song "Trust" featuring Angelina DelCarmen from CHARETTA another NY based band. Great song. Really good melodies in it. Who was responsible for that collaboration?
That was a Song Chas and I collaborated on early on when we first met although it wasn't a duet originally. When we were working on the new CD we revisited a few older tunes that we never used and came across "Trust". When listening to it again I had the idea of making it a duet as the lyrics seemed perfect for it. Once everyone agreed to make it a duet we asked Angelina who we knew was a great singer performer from playing shows together in NYC .
Any plans on touring? When can fans see you?
We have some big shows lined up through October in NY/ the surrounding areas and then we plan on touring more and spreading the CODE! We've been lucky enough to do well in NY and it was our intention to focus on that but it's time to make that happen everywhere Thanks again Tom for taking the time out to chat with me. Where can fans check you out and buy your music?
